Check the proposed location before excavation. Keep downspout discharge and meltwater away from the footing area, and look for standing water during spring thaw. Put the concrete into the forms evenly rather than piling it at one end and dragging it across the stair. Place in manageable lifts, work it into corners, and vibrate against the form faces to reduce bug holes. Over vibration can separate the mix, so the operator needs control rather than running the vibrator for as long as possible.


The finishing sequence follows the setting rate. Screed the top surfaces, bull float where appropriate, then edge the exposed corners and apply the selected texture. The concrete isn't finished when the broom or stamp is complete. It still needs time to develop strength and release moisture in a controlled way.
